Bean Hollow Beach Surf

Wonderful California Seascapes are to be found from L.A. to Mendocino - this particular one is located between that magic stretch of coastline from Santa Cruz to San Francisco. Bean Hollow State Beach has a special intimacy and looks small from Route 1 as you drive by. Once you park, get out of the car and look around however, you discover its secret - It's not just one beach but several - each with its own personality.

The wave and surf action is always strong at this spot - this painting was done in late September - the coastal fog now out at sea where it retreats during the Fall. I was struck by all that surf and wave action. I wanted to have my painting be about that - keeping it simple so as not to distract from the main event - the dynamic ocean.
